๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Safety Center

Anonymous to classmates. Never untraceable.

Whisp hides who sent a compliment from the person who got it. It doesn't hide anyone from us. Here's exactly how that works, what protects students, and who to contact when something's wrong.

๐Ÿšจ In danger right now?

Call 911. Whisp isn't an emergency service and can't send help. For support any time, call or text 988 in the US. More helplines below.

How it works

Three layers, one key we never give away.

Every whisper is stored in pieces. The person who receives it can only get to the sender's name through clues and paid reveals โ€” and a moderator only sees it when something is reported.

  1. The message

Delivered to the recipient, after passing two content filters.

    Seen by: the recipient
  2. The clues

True details from the sender's profile, locked until the recipient spends whisprs.

Seen by: the recipient, one at a time
  3. Who sent it

Kept apart from the message, where the app itself can't read it.

Opened by: a paid reveal, or a report

Built in

Protections that are on for everyone, always.

13 and over

An under-13 date of birth is refused by our servers, not just the app.

Your school only

No strangers. Only verified students at your school can see you or whisper you.

Classmates vouch

Join without a code and classmates confirm you really go there before you can post.

Filtered twice

Every whisper and poll is checked on the phone and again on our servers. Slurs, sexual harassment, threats and self-harm encouragement are blocked.

Kind polls only

Polls naming real students reject negative superlatives automatically.

People read reports

Report anything in two taps. A person reviews it, aiming for within 24 hours.

Silent blocking

Block anyone who whispers or votes for you. They're never told.

Audited access

Moderators can't browse messages. Every look at reported content is logged.

Nothing extra collected

No location, contacts, photos, ads or tracking โ€” ever.

For students

If something doesn't feel right

1 ยท Report it

Tap โ€ขโ€ขโ€ข on the whisper, poll or vote, then Report. It goes straight to a person. You're never in trouble for reporting, and the sender is never told who reported them.

2 ยท Block them

In the same menu, Block. They can't whisper or vote for you again, and they won't know. Blocking doesn't reveal who they were.

3 ยท Tell someone

A parent, a teacher, a counsellor โ€” anyone you trust. You don't have to deal with it alone.

What happens after you report

A moderator sees the content and who sent it. If it breaks our Community Guidelines, we remove it and act on the account โ€” from a warning up to a permanent ban. For serious threats, we may involve school officials or the police to keep people safe.

For parents & guardians

What you should know about Whisp

We'd rather you hear it from us, straight.

What it is

An app where students send anonymous compliments to classmates and vote in daily polls about them. Recipients can unlock true clues about the sender, and can pay to see the sender's name. Everyone on it must be 13 or older.

Who your teen can talk to

Only verified students at their own school. There's no open chat, no strangers, no direct messaging outside of anonymous whispers, and no way for adults outside the school to find them.

What classmates can see

Their name, username, grade and chosen emoji. Never their email, date of birth, birth year or gender. Profile details they add โ€” like hair colour or interests โ€” can appear as clues when they whisper or vote.

Purchases

A reveal costs $0.99 and Whisp Unlimited is $4.99 a month, both through Apple. Apple's Ask to Buy and Screen Time controls work with Whisp, so you can approve or block purchases. There are no ads.

Screen Time

On your teen's device, Settings โ†’ Screen Time lets you set app limits for Whisp, restrict App Store purchases, and control notifications. Whisp works fine with notifications off.

Removing an account

Your teen can delete their account any time in Profile โ†’ Delete account. If you'd like us to remove it, email downloadwhisp@gmail.com with the username and school. We'll take reasonable steps to confirm you're the parent or guardian โ€” and if the account belongs to a child under 13, we'll suspend it immediately while we do.

A conversation helps more than a rule. Ask your teen what they've sent and received, whether anything made them uncomfortable, and whether they know how to report and block. Remind them that anything they send can be traced back to them by us โ€” "anonymous" isn't a licence to be unkind.

For schools & educators

We'd rather hear from you early

Whisp isn't affiliated with any school. School names come from public directories or from students, and appear only so classmates can find each other.

If something on Whisp is affecting your students โ€” bullying, a worrying post, a threat โ€” email downloadwhisp@gmail.com with "School safety" in the subject, the school's name and, if you can, the date and a description or screenshot. We'll review it and remove content and accounts that break our rules.

We can't share students' personal information on request without a legal basis. But where there's a credible threat of violence, a risk that a student may harm themselves, or severe harassment, we may share what's needed with school officials to keep students safe, as our Privacy Policy explains.

If your school's name is wrong, duplicated or being misused, tell us and we'll fix it.

For law enforcement

Requesting records

We work with law enforcement to keep people safe, while protecting our users' privacy as the law requires.

How to submit a request

Email downloadwhisp@gmail.com from an official government address, with "Law Enforcement Request" in the subject. Include your agency, name, badge or ID number, a phone number we can verify, the username(s) and school involved, what you're asking for, and the legal process attached.

  • Basic account information requires a valid subpoena (18 U.S.C. ยง2703(c)(2)).
  • Other non-content records require a court order under 18 U.S.C. ยง2703(d).
  • The content of whispers and polls requires a search warrant.

Emergencies

If you believe someone faces an imminent risk of death or serious physical injury, put "EMERGENCY" in the subject and explain the emergency. We may disclose information without legal process where the law allows (18 U.S.C. ยง2702(b)(8) and (c)(4)).

Preservation

We'll preserve records for 90 days on receipt of a valid request under 18 U.S.C. ยง2703(f), extendable once for a further 90 days. Most account data is deleted as soon as a user deletes their account, and server logs are kept for about 30 days, so please ask promptly.

What we may have โ€” and won't

We may have account and profile information, the content of whispers and polls, records of who sent them, purchase records, and limited recent server logs. We don't collect location, contacts, photos or messages from other apps.

User notice

We tell users about requests for their information before disclosing it, unless the law prohibits it (for example, under a court's non-disclosure order) or notice would risk harm to someone. Requests from outside the US should come through a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty or similar process.
