No one is untraceable
Even ghost mode only hides clues. Anything you send is recorded, can be reported, and can be revealed by whoever got it. Selling teenagers true untraceability would be a safeguarding problem. Selling mystery is the product.
Not because people don't think them. Because saying them out loud, at school, with your name attached, is mortifying. Whisp is the workaround.

You've had the thought. Someone's outfit is genuinely great. Someone was quietly kind to a person who needed it. Someone's project was better than they think it was. And then you said nothing β because walking up to a classmate to compliment them out of nowhere is a social cliff most teenagers aren't going to jump off.
Take the name off, and the whole thing gets easy. That's the entire idea.
The idea
Plenty of anonymous apps have come and gone, and most went badly for the same reason: anonymity with no consequences turns into a place to be cruel. So Whisp is built the other way round. You're anonymous to the person you're whispering β never to us, and never to a moderator looking at a report.
There's also a reason to want to be found out. Every message carries clues drawn from the sender's real profile β their first initial, a class you share, their star sign, their vibe emoji. The game isn't "who said something mean." It's "wait β who thinks that about me?"
Our principles
Some of these cost us features. We drew them anyway.
Even ghost mode only hides clues. Anything you send is recorded, can be reported, and can be revealed by whoever got it. Selling teenagers true untraceability would be a safeguarding problem. Selling mystery is the product.
Polls that name real classmates reject negative superlatives outright. "Best laugh" is a poll. The mean version never gets made.
You earn whisprs by playing and spend them on clues. They can't be bought with money β ever. The only thing money buys is skipping straight to a name.
Our users are teenagers. So: no countdowns, no fake scarcity, no "last chance," and the price is on the button before you tap. Under 18? The app tells you to ask first.
We ask for your date of birth once, to check you're 13 or over β on our servers, where it can't be tricked. Your birth year is never shown to anyone.
It does one job: deciding who appears in a poll about guys or girls. Skip it and you never appear in those. It's never shown on your profile.
Under the hood
"Anonymous" is a word apps throw around loosely. Here's ours, specifically.
The app on your phone cannot read who sent a message. Not "doesn't" β cannot. Our server rules refuse it for everyone.
You pick which clues to attach; the server fills them in from your real profile and checks each one is true.
The recipient chooses to pay for one. It never happens by accident, and never by spending points.
They see what was sent and who sent it. Every single look is written to an append-only audit log.
